Volunteers

There have been numerous people who have been involved with Mountain Forum working as volunteers. These volunteers have contributed their time and skills to help build a better, more sustainable future for mountain communities and their environment.

Mountain Forum welcomes volunteers! Should you need more information about volunteering for Mountain Forum, please contact us at mtnforum[at]mtnforum[dot]org.

Some of the volunteers who have been involved with Mountain Forum in the past and those who continue to be associated with us are as follows:

  • Bishnu Katuwal: Mr. Katuwal helped analyse the data obtained from the Mountain Forum Evaluation Survey conducted between March-April 2006. He developed graphical representations of many of the findings of the Survey.
  • Sanjay Madnani: Mr. Madnani has provided tremendous support in the designing of the new look of all Mountain Forum products and publications. This includes the Mountain Forum logos, the Bulletin and promotional material. (2005 onwards)
  • Billi Bierling and Jacopo Pasotti: Ms. Bierling and Mr. Pasotti have been working for several months with the Mountain Forum staff as the lead editors of the Mountain Forum Bulletin, which was relaunched in June 2005. (2004 onwards)
  • Sïebastien Montaz Rosset: Mr. Rosset translated into French some important Mountain Forum membership materials - the mf-europe discussion list welcome message, the membership invitation, and the membership registration forms.
  • Ernest Rukangira: Mr. Rukangira, the moderator of the Africa Diversity Mailing List africadiv[at]lyris[dot]nuffic[dot]nl, has contributed his time and energy in translating the welcome message for the mf-africa discussion list into French. This service makes the mf-africa discussion list much more accessible to francophone users to participate in Mountain Forum. (August 2000)

NetAid/UN Volunteers

  • Karin Tang: Ms. Tang designed and created an online catalog of publications for Mountain Forum. The catalog combines HTML, Adobe Acrobat (.pdf), text and graphic files in a highly professional presentation. Ms. Tang also wrote excellent, readable summaries of each of the publications (April - June 2000).
  • Timothy Werwath: Mr. Werwath re-formatted and proofread two major documents on sustainable mountain tourism and on mountains and fresh water, in preparation for placing them in the Mountain Forum Online Library. (May 2000)
  • Kathy Smith, Cynthia Holland, Curtis Asbury, and David Ssezibwa: Mountain Forum received copyright permission to include the 1981-1999 abstracts from the journal Mountain Research and Development on our web site, and we're thrilled about that. The journal is of tremendous value to mountain scholars and activists around the world, but few of them have access to print copies. These wonderful volunteers have converted raw scanned text into formatted and proofed documents ready for the on-line library. (May 2000)
  • Melissa McCarty: Ms. McCarty re-formatted and proofread a key document on sustainable mountain tourism in preparation for placing it in the Mountain Forum Online Library. (May 2000)
  • Colleen Lyle: Ms. Lyle compiled the mountain sections of the United Nations country profiles for the Mountain Forum's database of national policies and laws that can help mountain peoples and environments. National information is a critical resource for activists working toward equitable and ecologically sustainable mountain development. (April 2000)

GIS Intern/Volunteer

  • Matt Sherald: Mr. Sherald created the online Mountain Forum Atlas, and interfaced it with our membership database so that users can click on a mountain range to find out who is working where to protect the land and people anywhere in the mountain world. (1998)

5481 individuals from 129 countries and 587 organisations from 77 countries are currently registered with Mountain Forum.
